Registered Massage Therapy
In 1946 the BC government legislated Registered Massage Therapy as a regulated health care profession. At Myokinetics all of our Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) are fully licensed with the College of Massage Therapists of British Columbia (CMTBC), Registered Massage Therapists’ Association of BC (RMTBC) and the City of Port Coquitlam. Registered Massage Therapists are focused on maintaining and restoring patients back to optimal health. RMTs have been taught to accurately assess and treat a wide variety of conditions using specific techniques. These techniques include: joint mobilization, manual therapy, muscle energy, trigger point release, myo-fascial release, hydrotherapy, and rehabilitative exercises such as stretching, strengthening, patient education and postural correction.
Education and training
Massage therapy is a natural and effective approach to treating pain. RMTs have the ability to treat a wide range of conditions such as, headaches, tendonitis, carpal tunnel, frozen shoulder, arthritis, osteoporosis, motor vehicle accident injuries, sports injuries, as well as any condition related to a soft tissue injury. In B.C. RMTs are considered to have the highest training and education available in all of the world. In order to become a Registered Massage Therapist students must complete a grueling 3,000 hour program at an accredited college, as well as successfully completing the national board exam.
Conditions
Registered Massage Therapy has seen a significant increase over the last decade. This can be attributed to a number of factors such as higher educational standards, research studies showing the effectiveness of massage therapy, and an overall increase in public demand for a natural non-surgical way of healing. In British Columbia, medical physicians significantly increased their referral for Registered Massage Therapy due to the fact that they see their patients conditions improve drastically through massage therapy. Patients are able to access massage therapy more easily and frequently thus providing them with better and faster results.
